the 583 was the vendor code for High Standard and the following numbers were the model and variation designation. Sears used a reference number on their guns that defined the vendor and the specific model and variation. ![]() The HS2 was the beginning of a number of evolutionary changes : HS2, HS3, HS3-1, HS3-2 and others. Sears had exclusive use of this design from 1948 through 1961 except for a few sold under the High Standard name to overseas military personnel in the mid 1950's The original High Standard design for the Model 20 was internally designated HS2. It was a design produced, developed tooled and manufactured by High Standard for Sears Roebuck and Co. Higgins Model 20 Pump action shotgun first appeared in the 1948 Sears Spring and Summer Big book catalog.
